Feed the Kitty
Hardest working band in southern california
Drawing from a wellspring of country and back-alley rock-and-roll, Feed The Kitty has created a wealth of unique neo-retro Southern California sounds, rich in singer-songwriter tradition, modest lament, and polished musicianship. The band continues to thrive on the ever-accumulating experience of over 4,300 live performances in 20+ years, constantly drawing an abundance of fans. Featuring Jack Maher Jr. (lead vocals/guitar), Jed Mottley (bass), and Jon Shumway (drums), the group combines encyclopedic musical knowledge with self-effacing humor. Feed The Kitty has harnessed this heightened knowledge to create and record over 60 incredible, licensable original songs. They have produced 5 albums, all available on their website and on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, Amazon Music, SoundCloud, and more.
As a self-managed SoCal group, this ensemble likely ranks in the top 10 for most shows ever played by a rock band. Averaging 250 shows a year, they play local Hollywood haunts like The Whisky a Go Go, Troubadour, and The Viper Room, along with the BeachLife Festival. They have proudly performed several shows at Angel Stadium and Dodger Stadium, and have played at famed venues in the Big Apple, across the European continent, and many venues in between.
In the three minutes a week that they are not playing a gig or recording an album, this band is busy placing songs in films, TV shows, and advertisements. Their music has been featured in several media content placements, such as the Oscar-nominated Ryan Gosling movie, Lars and the Real Girl, National Lampoon’s Cattle Call, the police drama Rogue, which utilizes three “Feed The Kitty” cuts for its soundtrack; and a live appearance on the Fox-11 TV’s Good Day L.A. morning program.
On request, Feed The Kitty produces original jingles, sonic/audio branding, logos, and music beds with a fast turnaround. Featuring one-stop licensing, the band owns 100% of the publishing and master rights for most of their music catalog.
Surviving the creative gauntlet of the Los Angeles/Orange County industry grind, Feed The Kitty has persevered and continues to surpass expectations. Their singles dot playlists on 88.5 FM and K-EARTH 101, as well as the world-renowned 95.5 KLOS in Southern California. This includes a notable appearance on the Frosty, Heidi and Frank Show in October 2018, where listeners voted during the 'Stay or Go' segment to let our heroes stay.
“Whenever I play California Country Girl I can count on listener response,” says 88.5 FM deejay Jim Nelson. “Feed The Kitty sounds great on the air.”
Most Feed The Kitty recordings have been completed at Dave Grohl’s famed Studio 606 in Los Angeles, with producer John Lousteau (Foo Fighters, John Fogerty, Rush) helming the board.
